We hosted an informal build day for members of the droid builders club, for a full day of sharing innovation and ideas, troubleshooting, camaraderie, collaboration, socializing, and pizza. š
About 25 talented veteran and newer builders drove from throughout Southern California, as far as San Diego and Ventura counties. It’s always so enjoyable and rewarding to interact with such creative and friendly people, strengthening friendships, and building new ones. Southern California Droid Builders are a special bunch.
Adventures with WALL-E
Mike Senna, well known from the remote-control R2-D2 replica he built in 2003, finished building a working WALL-E replica from the Pixar film in 2012. Completely scratch built, as there are no hobbiest parts available. He began building WALL-E’s girlfriend Eve in 2014.

WALL-E at UCLA
We were honored to be invited by Professor Dennis Hong to tour the Robotics and Mechanisms (RoMeLa) lab. We were blown away by various high tech robotic innovations created over the years by UCLA students. Including their newest full-sized humanoid robot ARTEMIS.
For details on their robots, check out Professor Hong’s latest TED Talk:

CHOC visit
It's been a while due to pandemic, so it was good to be back visiting pediatric patients at Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC). We joined Victor Franco with his R2-D2. Spreading joy to patients as well as staff always brings a smile to our faces.
